It was the section titled "Perspective" from a big-city newspaper. The main article had a title of "Cowardice". It was talking about the Supreme Court decision on California's bill about marriage.
The author was mad because the Court didn't take a more emphatic, liberal stand on same-sex marriage.
They hedged their bet.
They didn't go "all the way".
A line in the article stuck with me.
Something about one of the judges squinted his eyes tightly, as if to see what long-range implications his decision would have.
Huh.
I would think you'd be looking back at the Truth so you don't get too far away from it.
But that's just me.
Yeah.
Society today thinks that an anchor is an impediment. Not a lifesaver. Just a drag.
Dead weight.
So society has jettisoned the Anchor, elated with how fast and responsive it is now.
Now that it's free of Truth.
Free of that Anchor.
Free to "do its thing" with right and wrong flipping places to match whatever Wind of Preference is blowing at the moment.
And here's the surprise - Society is now amazed as it heads for rocks, reefs, and disaster. Wondering why it's being smashed to bits.
Tearing apart.
Falling apart.
Grabbing the tiller, the politicians and leaders squint hard trying to see a way through the rocks as they hurtle ahead, unrestrained, "progressing" all the way.
Running before the wind.
At the mercy of the wind.
Huh.
There's an old song that's
etched in my mind due to hot, Sunday mornings on hard, wooden pews. It had a line that went like this -
"My anchor holds and grips the Solid Rock."
Yeah.
I'll keep the Anchor and stay tethered to the Rock.
Someday I'll be sailing away on clear blue waters and gentle breezes into a gorgeous sunset.
But right now, I'm riding out the storm. So go ahead - let the winds blow.
My Anchor's holding.
