Our canning is almost all done, so any jars left over find other purposes.
As I type this, I’m working on a quart jar of water. Hydrating at 8 oz. an hour. It keeps things running, especially the sinuses.
Between the heat being on, the woodburner going, and the house bottled up, drinking water becomes even more important than usual.
I take a pull and set the jar down, remembering a quote Techno-Boy uses regularly when the setup is right.
“There’s a jar that's half-full. The Pessimist says, “It’s half-empty.” The Optimist says, “It’s half-full.” But the Opportunist says, “Hey, ya gonna drink that?”.
Another pull. I notice a note scribbled on a scrap of paper by the monitor. It’s the Wife’s writing.
“No matter the jarring, a jar of fresh water cannot spill filthy water.
When you’re upset, you spill what is really in you.”
Huh.
My week plays over in my mind.
Ouch. This is a time when a flashback really sucks.
My splashing wasn’t refreshing. My water wasn’t sparkling.
Switching to the Elixer, a swig washes up a Sunday School verse: 1 John 1.9.
GIGO. “Garbage In Garbage Out”. Or I guess it could be “Grace In Garbage Out”.
Another swig of Elixir uncovers another memory from college. Dr. “Glory” McKinley was a Bible prof at my alma mater. He had a great saying that applies to hydration and maintaining clear, clean, refreshing water.
“Stay under the spout where the Glory comes out.”
Yeah. That would keep the dirty water from settling in. That’ll keep my water clean.
Spout positioning. My choice. My call.
It’s nice to know smart people.
It’s even better if I listen.
And stay hydrated.
