With a velvet ball bat.
Yesterday the message was "Let God decide who you are."
Or a close simile thereof.
(I forgot to bring home the bulletin with the sermon notes in it.)
It was about letting God decide who I will be.
But I already know.
Kinda.
I know what I wanna do.
I wanna be rich and famous.
The easiest way possible.
With minimum hassle or personal growth.
That's what I want.
But God has a little different plan.
That whole idea of the clay and the Potter. And that Potter's Wheel.
Very disorientating.
(Hey, I got sick last year at the County Fair - on the Merry-Go-Round!)
And now He puts me on the Wheel. And starts squeezin'!
And taking away!
And pushin' and pullin'.
And - ohhhhh.
I, I never thought of being that.
Wow.
Who would've thought, eh?
Well, of course, the Potter did.
I have a little sign tacked up to the wall of our Library/Storage/Guest Room.
It says this:
"Beware of harking back to what you once were when God wants you to be something you have never been."
Even with all our warts, imperfections, and nagging problems, He sees something in us.
So He lovingly dismantles us.
Making something unexpected.
Making something incredible.
Ask Abraham, Moses, Rahab, David, and Gideon.
And, of course, Peter, Paul and Mary.
And now it's our turn.
